Few UnderWorlders can swim, which makes Nauthilax crucial to Chaor's maritime intelligence gathering
Nauthilax is an UnderWorld Elementalist and a maritime spy to his Tribe.
Nauthilax resembles a humanoid monkfish. He has external gills located at the side of his head and glowing green eyes in the centre of big and deep dark circles and four pointy fins on his back, an myrtle green inner body covered by a semi-transparent, gelatinous, slimy fern green material that stretches to form limbs and a seaweed-like goatee “beard”.
At the extremity of each of his upper limbs, Nauthilax has four long suckers. Down below, flat, non-slippery feet to help him adhere to surfaces like the muddy rocks of Everrain, his favourite Location.
In the Animation, starting with the M’arrillian Invasion, besides the overall reshaping, Nauthilax becomes discretely more colourful. His green body now has an apple green tonality, his gills and his “beard” becomes of a fire-brick tone and the iris of his eyes are now of an electric blue in a pinkish eyeball.
Personality & Behaviour
As one of the few UnderWorlders able to swim, Nauthilax is a valuable seafaring spy to Chaor and because of this he’s often on infiltration missions in the OverWorld, most of them through the several underwater tunnels of Lake Ken-I-Po. When not out on a mission, he’s usually around the Cordac Falls Plungepool along with Kerric, who patrols the region by air.
His loyalty is to his Tribe, but different from his fellow countrymen, he does not nourish any particular hate to the other main Tribes, even though he’s not exactly a fan of Mezzmarr, the OverWorld Scout who often frustrates his incursions.
In combat, Nauthilax is overconfident. Because of his stature, he’s a very brave fighter, however, for many times, the lack of battle wisdom gets the best out of him, having him often taking bad decisions, like standing still admiring the results of a single successful attack.
Because of his battle behaviour, Nauthilax is reckless causing him to harm himself each time he attacks.
As a Water specialist, he can reshape all kinds of liquid at will, but as an UnderWorlder, even though not at his best, he also does Fire Attacks every once in a while.
In the Animation, when the events of the M’arrillian Invasion effectively began, Phelphor mind-controls the Guardians of the Deepmines Vinta, Junda, Tartarek and Nauthilax himself so they could open the Doors of the Deepmines for him. As for Nauthilax, comes into play, the Tainted.
Surrendered to the power of the M’arrillians, Nauthilax loses his only Elemental affinity as well as his role as Elementalist because given his expertise with underwater espionage, becoming a Scout is a much more advantageous for his new masters. Even though having his Recklessness taken away is very seductive, internally, Nauthilax constantly struggles against the mind-control and the effort employed fires back Exhausting him, reducing all of his Disciplines whenever he attacks.
Regardless, although he didn’t become more resilient nor smarter either, as a M’arrillian Minion Nauthilax became very powerful, a perfect aide to a new secondary ability which grants him instant mastering of a new Element whenever his enormous Power becomes more evident while in combat.
However, when commanded by a M’arrillian Chieftain, Creatures capable of brainwashing other Creatures, Nauthilax’s abilities change once again to better suit the Captain, so no matter what it takes, he can focus on causing as much damage as possible. A commitment like this invariably would make him Reckless again, but also would allow him to Outperform his own limits, causing even more damage by showing off his Power and, provided he managed to control this destructive magnitude, even utterly annihilate his enemies’ Battlegears.
Hiding impatiently, just out of sight, Nauthilax soon learned that it's hard to let others do the hard work for you
And just like everyone learn with life lessons, so did Nauthilax. Comes into play the Aquatic Spy who, finally smarter, despite of permanently returning to his reckless origins, is now a better Elementalist, mastering two Elements, Water and Air, making the most out of powerful ice-like Attacks like Hail Storm.
Excluding the battles in Chaotic, Nauthilax was the very first vilain to appear in the show during the events ofWelcome to Chaotic: Part 2, during one of his incursions to the OverWorld through Lake Ken-I-Po, fighting against Mezzmarr and, then, Najarin, who came down from his Castle in aid of his friend in trouble.
Nauthilax appears, in Perim or in Chaotic, in the following episodes:
