No one has yet to reach the source of the rushing waters. Could the Cothica be where it all begins?
With a landscape formed by jagged cliffs, rocky embankments and steep slopes, the Riverlands is one of the reasons of the OverWorld wealth. Several rivers and streams flow through the Riverlands, sculpting the rocky formations creating canyons like the Rock River Canyon, all of them converging in the wild effluent of violent currents with various waterfalls with river mouth at Lake Ken-I-Po.
In Ancient Perim, however, as first seen during the events of Yesterday’s Heroes, in Secrets of the Lost City, things were very different. The Riverlands used to be a temperate rainforest with tall coconut palm trees and different types of lush green ferns and even small blue potato bushes with their purple flowers, and crystalline-blue riverbeds, calmly shaped by little waterfalls, naturally ornamented by small stones along their course.
The Riverlands communes with the Creatures and its placid waters rewards them with healing powers whenever a Water Attack is performed as a tribute. Here, the wisest of the engaged Creatures has the privilege of attacking first.
In the Animation, during the M’arrillian Invasion, in order to maximize the flooding caused by the melting of the frozen mountains of the Glacier Plains, Perim had to be partially reshaped and to do so the M’arrillians had to build dams in strategic locations. Erak’tabb, a M’arrillian Chieftain, established a foothold in the Riverlands as much to oversee the construction as to hold ground and prevent the work to be undone, in case the Tribal Alliance decided to attack.
The foulness of the waters disturbs the balance of the Creatures’ in there requiring a non-negotiable sacrifice in the form of a Mugician. Also, the M’arrillians’ corruption subverts the harmony of the Riverlands, so it partially protects them and their Minions from incoming damage. Because only the physical aspect of the Riverlands changed, the wisest of the engaged Creatures still retain the privilege of attacking first.
- Fewest Elements
After the defeat of Aa’une, the remaining M’arrillians fled to the Doors of the Deepmines leaving all damage caused behind. The Riverlands became an ugly and desolated place… But in a collective effort, as seen during the events of Elementary, Rellim, the Riverlands’ Caretaker, Hune Canin, Najarin, Garv, Caretaker of Lake Morn and the Servant of Water, Unda, in an apparent visit to the OverWorld, succeeded in destroying all of M’arrillians’ dams and, the most important, purified the water so life could once again return to the region.
The hard work to be done in the Abandoned Wastes analogously represents scouring a toolbox looking for a specific one for a problem. Here, the engaged Creature with the least of the elemental affinities has the privilege of attacking first, representing the strife of the most demotivated one even after a devastating event.
The Riverlands appears, in Perim or in Chaotic, in the following episodes:
